Priyanka Patel, Clinical Counsellor

My name is Priyanka, and I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. I hold a Master's of Counselling Psychology degree from Adler University, and have been practicing since 2016.

I pursued a career in counselling in part because connection and health are my truest values. Through out my career, I have realized how valuable and normalizing counselling can be. We all have pain, we all need others help to heal, and we can all heal and grow beyond what we ever thought possible.

I am passionate about helping individuals identify and overcome the obstacles that prevent them from reaching their full potential. I seek to provide a safe and non-judgmental space for youth and adults to explore patterns and beliefs that may be hindering them from making meaningful changes in their lives. Together, we can explore and process the impact past wounds and relationships may be having on your sense of self and your relationships.

Some of my areas of specialization includes helping clients with many areas of concern, such as trauma and post-traumatic stress, relationships and attachment issues, depression and anxiety, addictions and substance use, self-esteem, body image, family conflict, and childhood trauma.

Approach

My training and experience lies in working with Individuals, Couples and Groups, as well as specialized training in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I have worked in a wide range of settings and populations, including hospital, community and private practice.

In my work with clients, I use components of person-centred theory, attachment theory, family systems theory, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), mindfulness, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and somatic therapies, including trauma-sensitive yoga.

I am also a registered provider with the Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP)
