Therapy for Attachment Issues

Attachment refers to the level of comfort and security we have in our relationships with others. Securely attached individuals often have a high level of satisfaction in their relationships, feel safe in both the company and in the absence of loved ones, relate to their emotions in a relaxed and compassionate manner, and enjoy better health and wellbeing. Sounds nice doesn’t it!

Sources of Reactive Attachment Issues

Sadly, secure attachment can be disrupted by negative interpersonal interactions, such as dysfunctional family environments, trauma, bullying or oppression. When these disruptions occur, we can end up feeling less safe in the world and in the company of others, our interactions with others are plagued with the fear of abandonment and rejection, we feel greater anxiety and insecurity, and our health and well-being suffers.

Attachment Disorder Therapy

Attachment disorder therapy is an excellent and effective way to repair attachment disruptions and help you feel better in your skin once again. A well trained and conscientious therapist understands the potential signs of attachment in relationships and knows how to create a relationship in which you feel safe, validated, and valued.

What to Expect from Therapy for Attachment Issues

As you go through the process for therapy for attachment issues, you will be able to internalize these feelings in a way that cancels out the negative interpersonal messages from the past.

Together you and your therapist pave the way back to secure attachment.  It is completely normal for you to feel awkward, mistrustful or uncomfortable at the beginning of dealing with attachment issues. Afterall, you are opening yourself up to being vulnerable with someone after being hurt.  Over time, as your therapist helps you rebuild trust in yourself and others, your sense of wellbeing and security in relationships will likely be restored.
