Workshop Details

This course is for couples with low/no sexual desire or frequency, and/or desire discrepancy (in which one partner is more interested in sex than the other) who are ready to embark on a journey to enhance their sexual experiences and relationships.  The process will involve group therapy over 16 hours. There is a limit of 4 to 6 couples/group. Participants will focus on identifying and communicating their sexual preferences, creating conditions for satisfying sexual experiences, and engaging in home play between sessions. Activities include talks, exercises, discussions, and home play, all within a safe and enjoyable environment for couples to explore their sexual needs and create fulfilling experiences.

The content of the group therapy sessions is based on the work of the Optimal Sexual Experiences Research Team at the University of Ottawa. Their work reveals insights into factors that contribute to extraordinary sexual experiences. This therapeutic group applies this research directly to help ordinary couples cultivate conditions for remarkable intimacy. It also serves as a component of ongoing research into the effectiveness of group therapy in enhancing sexual fulfillment. Early findings suggest that participation in this group is more effective than traditional couples therapy in addressing issues of low desire and frequency, as well as improving overall sexual and relationship satisfaction. Optional participation in the research project involves completing questionnaires before, during, and after the group sessions.

Testimonials

“My partner and I have been seeing our therapist at Resilience Psychotherapy for more than a year now. She has improved our relationship significantly, helped us to better understand each other’s needs, communicate more effectively, and grow as individuals. Shockingly so, I would say.

When starting out, I had assumed a therapist’s goal was to bring two people closer together. I thought Stefanie might act as an arbitrator during conflict and say who is being unreasonable and who has the higher ground. That’s not how it works.

Her real talent has been in helping us understand each other’s context and communication style by asking the right questions. She never tried to change our messages to each other; she helped to ensure our messages were transmitted effectively and received in the way intended, whatever we felt or wished to say.

Stefanie (our therapist) helped us to see each other and the relationship more objectively. I never got the sense that she was trying to direct our relationship to a particular outcome; instead, she created a safe space to express ourselves and helped us interact constructively to feel understood … and that ultimately led to a better relationship. ” G.W., 34
